Who We Are

HoopFrog is a safety-first Canadian dating app. Every profile shows a public Trust Score and the checks that have been completed: phone, email, age, photos, the optional live selfie, and a friend's vouch. A phone number must be confirmed before anyone can like or message. Photos are screened automatically when uploaded, with human review when needed. Values-based, no-swipe pairing makes impersonation and romance scams harder to run.

HoopFrog is built and operated by HoopFrog Inc., an independent Canadian company founded in 2023 and headquartered in St. Albert, Alberta, with roots in Griffithstown, Pontypool, Wales. We are a small, passionate team building the kind of dating app we felt was missing: one designed to help people form meaningful connections, without the endless swiping and games.

The name HoopFrog is a fun wink at two old dating sayings: "jump through a lot of hoops" and "kiss a lot of frogs" on the journey to meet the right person. It captures what we believe: finding a meaningful connection takes effort and a sense of humour. A place designed to help you find someone worth putting your phone down for.

Our deep compatibility scoring goes beyond basic preferences to consider values, communication styles, lifestyle alignment, and relationship goals.

  • Invisible: Browse without appearing in activity feeds, suppress read receipts, and control your visibility. Your privacy, your rules.
  • Safety by Design: Automated content scanning, photo and video moderation, visible checks on every profile, scam detection, and Block and Report tools. We built safety into the foundation, not as an afterthought.

Our Technology

We are a technology company at heart, and we invest heavily in building systems that support a safer, more connected community:

  • Encryption: Messages are encrypted in transit and at rest (not end-to-end) using strong, industry-standard encryption. To protect the community, automated and human review may examine message-related signals to detect scams and abuse, as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Content Moderation: We use a combination of automated scanning, pattern detection, and image and video analysis to identify inappropriate content, scams, and predatory behaviour. Images and video are reviewed before they're shared, and message-related signals are reviewed for scams and abuse.
  • Checks You Can See: A date of birth at registration with a certified third-party age check where the law requires it, a phone number confirmed before anyone can like or message, email confirmed by link, photos screened at upload, an optional live selfie compared with the profile photo, and a friend's vouch. Every profile shows which are done. The phone and age checks are required of everyone, and the rest add up to a public Trust Score. These are safeguards, not guarantees: checks cannot confirm a person's identity or intentions.
  • Compatibility Algorithm: We like math! Our proprietary scoring system evaluates dozens of data points, values, lifestyle, communication preferences, and more, to help you consider compatibility with the people you meet.
  • Real-Time Communication: In-app messaging with read receipts, voice messages, and video and voice calling, all built with privacy and safety in mind.
  • Push Notifications: Stay informed with instant notifications for new messages, connections, likes, and calls, even when the app is in the background.
  • AI-Assisted Support: Our support chatbot helps answer common questions instantly, learning from frequently asked questions to improve over time. For complex issues, our team is available directly.
  • Built for Privacy Compliance: Our privacy program is designed to support compliance with PIPEDA, Alberta PIPA, and Quebec's Law 25, and to prepare for GDPR/UK GDPR where applicable, including data minimization, automated retention enforcement, and full Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) tooling.

HoopFrog is available on the web and as an Android app on Google Play. On iPhone, use the website for now. Here is what makes it worth your time:

Checks help us assess authenticity but cannot guarantee a person's identity or intentions. HoopFrog does not use AI-generated profiles to represent members or simulate interest.
  • Compatibility With Depth: A multi-dimension questionnaire covering values, lifestyle, communication style, and relationship goals powers every suggestion. Less noise, more people who actually fit your life.
  • See and Hear Before You Meet: Video greetings let you experience someone's personality before you say hello, and in-app voice and video calls let the conversation grow without ever sharing your phone number.
  • Safety-First Engineering: Scam detection, automated content scanning, and human review of flagged content. Safety is in the foundation, not bolted on.
  • Built in Canada, Speaking Your Language: Proudly engineered in Alberta, with the app interface available in seven languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Portuguese, and Welsh.
  • Privacy by Design: Your data is encrypted in transit, and your messages and voice notes are also encrypted on our servers. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising. Stealth puts you in control of who sees you.

Our Commitment to Child Safety

Protecting children is a non-negotiable priority at HoopFrog Inc. HoopFrog is a strictly adults-only platform, and we build child safety into the product. Every photo uploaded to HoopFrog is checked before it is published against databases of known child sexual abuse material using two independent hash check layers, one of them Project Arachnid Shield (Canadian Centre for Child Protection). Only a non-reversible hash of the image is checked. Routine hash checks do not transmit images. Where content is confirmed or suspected CSAM, we may preserve and disclose relevant content and account data to lawful authorities and child-protection bodies as required by law. Any match results in immediate account suspension and removal of the content. Photos cannot be sent in private messages on HoopFrog, removing a common abuse vector. HoopFrog Inc. accesses Shield by Project Arachnid (https://projectarachnid.ca), a program of the Canadian Centre for Child Protection Inc., to facilitate the detection and removal of child sexual abuse material and harmful-abusive material of children and survivors of child sexual abuse on its services. We are required to and will report confirmed CSAM to the appropriate authorities, including the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC) and Cybertip.ca / the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, through our escalation process and in accordance with our legal obligations.
