The same safety core on HoopFrog and DateSteady

HoopFrog and DateSteady are separate apps built on one safety core. These protections work the same way on both.

Phone check first
A verified phone number is needed before anyone can send a message.
Photos screened
Profile and gallery photos are screened before they appear.
Selfie check
The selfie check is optional for most members: a live selfie is compared with the member's own profile photo, and every profile shows which checks are done.
No profiles made by us
We don't create profiles to fill the app, use AI personas, or message you from automated accounts.
Connections only
Only people you have connected with can message you. You both say yes first.
No photos in chat
Photos can't be sent in private messages, so unwanted images can't arrive in your messages.
Scam warnings
Messages are checked for common scam patterns, and the person receiving one gets a quiet warning.
Am I being scammed?
Not sure about someone? “Am I being scammed?” asks a few short questions and gives you a plain answer.
Threats held back
Messages with serious threats are held for review before they reach you.
Block and report
Block or report anyone from their profile or your chat. Once blocked, they can't reconnect with you.
Location kept private
Your exact location is never shown. Profiles show your area, and map positions are shifted.
Two-step sign-in
Protect your account with an authenticator app or a text code.

These are safeguards, not guarantees. The checks show what a member has done; they do not confirm real-world identity or prevent all misrepresentation, and we do not run criminal background checks.

Child Protection

A deep moral responsibility

Protecting children is not a compliance checkbox. It is our most fundamental obligation.

HoopFrog has a zero-tolerance policy for content that exploits or endangers minors. We believe we all have a genuine moral and legal responsibility to protect children, and we take this with the utmost seriousness.

We do not treat moderation as a legal formality. Every report matters, and we act on it. We report illegal content involving minors to the relevant authorities, including the RCMP's National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC), and cooperate fully with all law enforcement investigations.

Report to authorities

Strictly 18+
Our platform is restricted to adults 18+. Everyone confirms their date of birth at sign-up, with a third-party age check where the law requires it or when our safety checks call for one. Accounts that appear to belong to someone under 18 are suspended while a person reviews them. Accounts of children under 13 are deleted. Anyone who targets a minor is removed, and illegal content is reported to the authorities.
Known-CSAM Detection
Images uploaded to HoopFrog and DateSteady are checked against known child sexual abuse material using industry-standard hash checks and Project Arachnid, run by the Canadian Centre for Child Protection. If a check cannot run, the image is held for human review instead of being published.
Report Immediately
If you encounter any content involving a minor, report it in-app and email safety@hoopfrog.com with the subject line "CHILD SAFETY".
